Field Production Engineer - Renewable Energy
Job Summary: Field Production Engineers in the Renewable Energy Department are responsible for the implementation of our customers’ Vegetative Management Plan. The position requires planning and implementing a high quality product, interpreting construction plans/ specifications, and communicating regularly with the central office. Our projects are usually hundreds of acres and will involve operating light and heavy equipment including tractors, skid steers, telehandlers, straw blowers, and hydroseeders. This job also requires hands-on labor including working in the field to assess the progress of the work at the job site, assisting the crews, ensuring proper drawing/documentation, procuring materials and verifying delivery, assisting in obtaining equipment and tooling, and ensuring equipment function and maintenance. Travel is required between the central office in Indianapolis IN and the various job sites.
Location: The central office is in Indianapolis, IN. Our projects are in the Midwest states. Applicants must be willing to relocate to the jobsite area and manage a few sites within that region. Most of the projects are in rural areas and last 1-2 years.
Responsibilities:
Seeding, erosion control installation, mowing, herbicide application and other activities necessary for the field implementation of the Vegetative Management Plan
Monitor/maintain plantings for successful end user results
Maintain and operate equipment such as tractors and implements
Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and supervision
Assist in managing the Document Control procedure in the field
Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining the percentage of completed/installed materials and work
Assist in compiling, processing and confirming daily labor timesheets
Assist in preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
Participate in job site safety reviews, toolbox meetings and safety training
Plan, schedule and coordinate workgroups on the job site
Supervise field operations
Assist in managing subcontractors
Assist in the maintenance of basic project record keeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, request for information (RFIs), etc.
Assist in generating change orders to be reviewed by the Project Manager/ Project Supervisor
Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
Provide consultation to management on the development of bids and scope of work
Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in the preparation of a bid
Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bring them to the attention of the supervisor
Ensure compliance to company and jobsite training, policies and procedures
Education, Experience and Skills:
Undergraduate degree in Turf Management and Science or Construction Management with Vegetatvie Management experience
Strong math background
Ability to travel and relocate as required
Ability to work in an extreme agricultural environment including temperature extremes of heat and cold, dust, noise, outdoor weather conditions, and wear all required personal protective equipment.
Ability to do physical labor; must be able to lift up to 75 lb., pulling, reaching, and climbing
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Compliance with company and jobsite training, policies and procedures
Working knowledge of computers and experience with Word and Excel
Demonstrated organization and management skills
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done
Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team
Experience running tractors 50-250hp preferred
Experience with cultivating, planting, field management, and/or weed management preferred
Mechanical Experience preferred
At least 21 years of age
Valid Driver's License
Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future
